DeWitt Perry 8th Grader Named National Geographic Bee Champion
Perry Middle School student, Pranay Varada, has been named Champion of the National Geographic Bee. For the second year in a row, Varada took the state championship in the Bee. On May 17, Varada took top honors at the 29th annual competition in Washington, D.C.
In 2016, Varada took an admirable 6th place. As the 2017 National Geographic Bee champion, Varada earned a $50,000 scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands. While it was his second trip to the nationals, this was not his second foray into this competition. In fourth grade, he took 2nd place in the state competition.
