machayoSusan Machayo, principal of Farmers Branch Elementary School in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD has been awarded the University Council for Educational Administration Excellence in Educational Leadership Award following her nomination by the Department of Education Policy and Leadership in the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University.

The award was presented on June 5, 2014 at the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Board of Trustee meeting. The Excellence in Educational Leadership Award is an annual recognition for practicing school administrators who have made significant contributions to the improvement of principal preparation.  It is an unusual award because it affords national recognition, but the recipients are selected by individual universities. Ms. Machayo has mentored five principal candidates in the SMU Accelerated School Leadership M.Ed. either directly as their field mentor during course work or as summer school assistant principals.

Her current assistant principal, Farah Rehman is a graduate of the program. Susan is an outstanding candidate for the award because her school is a diverse Title 1 school with high academic achievement.   She exemplifies UCEA values of Learning and Social Development for all Children; Diversity, Equity and Social Justice for all Educational Organizations; and Quality and Excellence in the Preparation of School Leaders and Professors.
