Four of the SMU Football players, Randall Joyner #5 (a former Newman Smith Graduate), Ajee Montes #10, Kevin Pope # 3, and Stephon Sanders #23, visited Strickland Elementary during College Awareness Week to share with students information about their college experience. The players stressed the importance of reading, good grades and dedication to proper study habits as keys to their success in making it into SMU. The players then read the book, “Brendan and Belinda and the Slam Dunk” by Anne Rockwell. The book demonstrates the importance of having a balance between sports and other activates in your life. The program concluded with the players giving high-fives to the students and encouraging them to achieve their dreams.
