Thompson 4th Graders See Texas History Come Alive

On Apr. 12, 4th graders from Thompson Elementary traveled to San Antonio and Austin to experience what they are learning in Texas History. Students visited the Texas  State Capitol, the Witte Museum and the Alamo. The trip was funded by Discover Texas Field Trips, a non-profit organization.

Students discussed why Texans are so proud of their unique heritage. At the Witte Museum, students learned about “chuck box cuisine” from “Cookie,” a historical reenactor straight from the trail. Students saw first-hand where Texas laws are made as they toured the State Capitol. The visit included visiting the Senate and House of Representatives chambers.

The students then stepped back in time as they toured The Alamo, one of the most famous missions in the United States. While there, they learned about the Battle of the Alamo’s role in the Texas Revolution.
